Mission & History

Our Mission

The mission of Lee BIA Builders Care is to provide emergency construction services at no cost to needy and deserving elderly and disabled homeowners who cannot obtain repairs through traditional means.

Builders Care exists to improve the quality of life for these deserving Lee County residents. Recipients are elderly and/or disabled individuals of all ages who are in financial need and are living with housing conditions that pose a safety or health threat.

Builders Care projects range from handicap accessibility, roof repairs and replacements, building wheelchair ramps, HVAC repairs and replacements, electrical and plumbing repairs and extensive repairs due to unsafe conditions. Builders Care offers this full range of home repair and renovation services by enlisting the expertise and generous support of contractors, sub-contractors and businesses.

Our History

Lee BIA Builders Care was founded in 2005 to provide no-cost emergency home repair and renovation services to elderly, disabled and economically disadvantaged homeowners.

To date, Builders Care has completed more than 500 projects and put more than $5 million in construction services back into the community at no cost to homeowners in need.

Behind Builders Care is the Lee Building Industry Association (Lee BIA), a not-for-profit trade organization representing Lee, Hendry and Glades counties. A powerful voice for the building industry, the 64-year-old association is affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders and Florida Home Builders Association. Lee BIA promotes, protects and preserves homeownership, private property rights and affordable housing by advocating for balanced laws, regulations and fees through member education and outreach.

Builders Care’s projects are possible thanks to the donated services and expertise of Lee BIA members. This program gives local builders a way to work together on worthwhile community service projects while providing critical housing repairs for our neediest neighbors.

Recipients are referred to Builders Care by local social service agencies, churches and community members. Builders Care staff and governing board members carefully evaluate each case to determine eligibility.
