Builders Care receives $2,500 to support local homeowners in need
FORT MYERS, Fla. (Dec. 17, 2019) – Gateway Women’s Club has recognized Lee BIA Builders Care, the nonprofit charitable arm of the Lee Building Industry Association (BIA), as the club’s “Charity of the Year,” presenting a donation of $2,500 to further the nonprofit’s mission.
Funds will support Lee BIA Builders Care in its efforts to provide emergency construction services at no cost to needy and deserving elderly and/or disabled homeowners, and their families, who cannot obtain repairs through traditional means. In its 12-year history, Builders Care has served hundreds of homeowners in Lee County, building wheelchair ramps, installing new roofs, remodeling homes and completing other critical repairs that allow the individuals and families to live safely and comfortably in their homes.
“Thanks to the invaluable support of groups like Gateway Women’s Club, we are better equipped to make a greater impact on those who are in desperate need of home repairs and other services,” said Becky Swift, executive director of Lee BIA Builders Care. “We are grateful for their partnership as we work together to provide these lifechanging services to our neighbors in need.”
Builders Care is the Gateway Women’s Club first-ever Charity of the Year, selected by membership following a criteria review that included confirmation of nonprofit status, that donations are invested locally, that a high percentage of money is used for charity instead of other costs, and that it receives no federal funding.
“Our club has grown to 200 members and we felt our charity dollars would be best put to one charity chosen for the year rather than giving smaller donations to many charities as we had in the past. We hoped this would truly make a difference for the charity and its cause,” said Joanne Montgomery, co-chairman of the Gateway Women’s Club’s charity committee. “We felt our goals were met by Builders Care and our dollars raised would make an impact for good for our surrounding community.”
Founded in 1987, the Gateway Women’s Club is an organization of Gateway women promoting fun, friendship, charity, education and community awareness. Members come from many different areas of the country and the world and bring a variety of interests and knowledge to share with each other and the community. The talents and experiences of this diverse group of women blend to bring about a dynamic connection.
