Recently Lee BIA Builders Care was able to help an elderly and disabled homeowner with critical home repairs.
Gloria is an elderly and disabled woman who lives alone in her Fort Myers home. Her mobility is limited and she must use a walker or wheelchair to get around safely. In 2018, an electrical fire sparked from her kitchen and quickly spread throughout the home. The fire destroyed all of her belongings and left her home in complete despair. Extensive repairs were needed and Gloria’s income would not allow her the means to rehabilitate the home. She received partial assistance through local municipalities however, all funds were exhausted and repairs were still needed.
Gloria’s home was without an HVAC system and still needed accessibility improvements. Over the months, the home had grown considerably warm, causing conditions that were not suitable for her health or safety. Subsequently, Gloria began living in a room that was once her garage using a single window unit to keep cool. In addition, Gloria did not have a wheelchair ramp at her front entry, preventing her from entering and exiting the home without assistance.
After learning of Gloria’s situation, Lee BIA Builders Care and partners quickly stepped in to help.
ARGOS and Bonness joined forces and provided Gloria with an accessible concrete ramp at her front entry so she can safely enter and exit the home. In addition, Ferguson HVAC and St. Clair’s Custom Air partnered together to provide Gloria with a brand new RUUD HVAC system. In addition, Premiere Window Treatments provided some window treatments for added comfort and cooling. All services were provided at no cost to the homeowner thanks to the generosity of these companies.
These improvements are a life-changing blessing that has made Gloria’s home livable again and Gloria extends her sincerest thank you to all who made this possible for her!
