Lee Builders Care helps Amputee with Concrete Repairs

Last week, Builders Care was able to provide safety for a Fort Myers amputee by repairing uneven cracks in her concrete.

Diane Schroeder is 66-years-old and a recent amputee. She and her husband, Arthur, lived in this home for 35 years until his death from Lung Cancer in 2009. Diane had complications from a knee replacement in 2008 that led the amputation of her leg above the knee. She spent months in a rehabilitation clinic learning mobility tools for her new way of life.

Luckily, Builders Care, in partnership with Lee County Department of Human Services and local companies, came to her rescue in 2014. They completed various life-changing repairs for her at no cost including a complete bathroom remodel for handicap accessibility, installation of a new HVAC and foundation stabilization.

Over the years, portions of the concrete began to lift creating uneven cracks. The front wheels on Diane’s wheelchair are not equipped to stay straight when going over sloped surfaces. These uneven cracks were in an area that Diane must access daily, thus causing a concern for her safety.

Fortunately, Builders Care was able to help Diane by leveling the concrete so she can safely access these areas of her home. The repairs took only a few hours and has made all the difference for Diane’s safety and peace of mind. We are happy to know that Diane can maneuver around her home with ease again!
