On Saturday, August 24, 2019 Builders Care was able to provide a much needed portable wheelchair ramp for a family in Lehigh Acres.
Maria Barrios, a disabled mother, has 3 sons with Muscular Dystrophy (MD) Syndrome; all of which are confined to a wheelchair and 2 are legally blind. Maria is also confined to a wheelchair and her husband has early stages on Alzheimer’s Disease. The family’s weekly schedule requires frequent trips to and from doctor and the front entry of the home did not accommodate a wheelchair. Without a ramp at the front entry, Maria’s oldest daughter Rosalina would lift her brothers’ wheelchairs over the 4″ high threshold to get them in and out of the home. In addition, a ramp was needed on the back lanai for safer easier access. Fortunately, we were able to provide the family with these portable wheelchair ramps so they can safely enter and exit the home with ease.

Lee BIA Builders Care is the nonprofit charitable arm of the Lee Building Industry Association (Lee BIA).
