Recently, Lee BIA Builders Care provided a new roof for an elderly Cape Coral homeowner in need.
Phyllis Wagner, 94, has lived in her Cape Coral home for more than 25 years. Originally from Canada, she moved to Florida at age 26 and became a US citizen. In 2014, her husband passed away and she now resides in the home by herself. As an elderly woman living alone, daily activities aren’t as easy for Phyllis as they would be for most. Her limited vision and mobility make it challenging for her to take care of the home. Her limited income doesn’t help either, as it is just enough to cover the basic expenses of living. Despite these setbacks, she continues to be a kind and gentle woman and has managed to keep the home in good condition.
Shortly after her husband’s passing in 2014, Phyllis underwent a very traumatic accident. While driving, she began to feel strange and knew something wasn’t right. To be safe, Phyllis decided to turn around and head home. Moments later, she woke up in her car. Subsequently, she had suffered a heart attack, passed out and drove her vehicle into a liquor store. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured and Phyllis was treated at the hospital. She now has a pacemaker and manages her health wonderfully.
When Hurricane Irma hit SWFL in 2017, she lost numerous shingles on her roof. The 22 year-old shingle roof was at its lifespan and Phyllis did not have the means to cover the costs of replacing it. The home is near and dear to her heart and the thought of living anywhere else was unimaginable for Phyllis.
Fortunately, Lee BIA Builders Care contracted the work of Frank’s Roofing & Spraying, Inc. to provide Phyllis with a brand new roof. The new roof is a life-changing gift and provides Phyllis a much safer means of living for many years to come.
