Lee BIA Builders Care partners to provide Accessible Bathroom for LARC Community Residence

Recently, Lee BIA Builders Care and Beattie Development provided an accessible bathroom for the non-profit organization LARC, whose mission is to promote and provide opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to live, work and participate in their communities to the fullest extent their capabilities allow.

LARC’s Residential Group Home, the Northshore Community Residence, provides room and board for disabled individuals and provides life skills training in a person centered, home like environment. The current bathroom in the home was not handicap accessible. LARC staff expressed their growing concern for the safety of their residents and reached out to Lee BIA Builders Care. With a unique approach, the two organization’s and community partners came together to provide a safe and accessible bathroom for the residents.

“Builders Care was instrumental in helping this vision become a reality,” said Kevin Lewis, Executive Director of LARC. “Their members designed the renovation based on the needs of our residents, they shepherded it through permitting and then linked us with Beattie Development who managed the project to its successful conclusion.  Bathroom renovations in a home originally constructed in 1943 can pose some challenges – the Beattie team brought great expertise and effective solutions when problems emerged, and were super sensitive to how their work impacted the residents of our home – to the point of re-installing the toilet daily throughout  the project to reduce stress on the residents. Thank you to all!”
