Recently, Lee BIA Builders Care and partners provided an accessible bathroom for a Lehigh Acres family to enhance the health and safety of their disabled child.
12-year-old Nathaly Mero began her life under difficult circumstances. She was born prematurely and diagnosed with cerebral palsy, affecting her ability to move and maintain balance and posture. Nathaly has been unable to perform daily activities since birth and relies on the love and care of her family. Nathaly’s mother, Mercedes is her primary caretaker and her father, Pedro, works full time to support them. Although Nathaly will never be able to function independently, these trials have never affected her positive and contagious spirit. She is a special girl with a spectacular heart.
As Nathaly continued to grow over the years, the family was faced with increasingly difficult challenges. The bathroom in the home was not accessible, and Nathaly’s wheelchair was unable to maneuver around the bathroom. As a result, her mother had to lift her in and out of the bathtub in order to bathe, which posed a safety risk for both Nathaly and her mother. It was clear the family was in need of a roll-in shower to make bathing safer for all. Unfortunately, the family’s income would not allow them to afford any type of modifications.
After learning about the family, Marvin Development and partners quickly coordinated efforts to provide an accessible bathroom for Nathaly. By removing the existing bathtub and replacing it with an accessible roll-in shower, Nathaly can now bathe more safely and comfortably. These accommodations are a blessing and will significantly improve the health, safety and well-being for the entire Mero Family.
All labor and renovations were provided at no cost to the family, thanks to the generosity of local contractors and sub-contractors. Project partners included: Marvin Development • All About Construction • Carter Construction • Cape Coral Plumbing • Hi Tec Concrete • JTE Electric • Wayne Wiles Floor Coverings • Xcel Painting • Wheelchairs 4 Kids
“It was our pleasure to work on this project for this family on behalf of Builder’s Care. It is heart-warming to know the difference it will make in their lives and humbling to us to have been a special part of it. We are also very thankful for all of our sub-contractors who assisted and for their cooperative nature in getting things done, especially during these challenging times. From all of us at Marvin Development Corp… We hope that you are all healthy and staying safe. Sincerely, Richard, Joe, Stan and Dawn”
Our sincerest thank you to those who made it possible!
