Disabled Homeowner Receives Life-Changing Ramp

LeeBC

This week, Lee BIA Builders Care and community volunteers came together to build a wheelchair ramp for a disabled homeowner in Fort Myers.

James Young suffered a stroke in 2011. He lost complete use of his legs and the ability to function independently. Kathy is his wife and primary caretaker. Relying only on disability benefits from James, Kathy also works part time to try and make ends meet. Unfortunately, the family’s fixed income did not allow them the means to afford a ramp. As a result,  Kathy was using an old piece of plywood at the back door to exit the house to get him in and out of the house. This has been the case for years.

Thanks to the Builders Care team of volunteers and partners, James Young will finally be able enter and exit his home safely and independently. He has recently been staying at a care facility and has not yet seen the ramp. When he returns home in next few days, he will be welcomed with his brand new ramp. Words cannot express how grateful Kathy is for the hard work and dedication put into building this ramp. She cannot wait to bring James home.
