Recently, Lee BIA Builders Care and partners joined forces to provide a life-changing wheelchair ramp for a disabled homeowner in Fort Myers.
Glen Fox, 58, is a native to Fort Myers and spent most of his career as a skilled carpenter, building and repairing many homes for others, while working for the City of Fort Myers Housing Authority. In his spare time, Glen dedicated himself to his family and community, serving as the head coach of football and baseball for Fort Myers High School for years. He is well known in our community and has made lasting impacts on so many over the years.
Glen lives in his home with his wife, Denise. Denise is a Registered Nurse and works for Millenium Physicians Group. Together, they have lived in their Fort Myers home for decades, creating many memories and now share in the joy of living next to their children, and grandchildren. They couldn’t have asked for a better place to be.
Recently, Glen’s health took a turn, and his life became much different than it once was. Glen suffers from neuropathy, which causes weakness in the body due to damaged nerves. He is also diabetic and has undergone multiple surgeries due to foot infections. These conditions have permanently limited his ability to stand or walk without assistance. Since Glen receives only a limited amount of social security income, Denise continues to work full time, as necessary to keep them afloat. Unfortunately, this has left Mr. Fox confined to the home during the day, as he is unable to use the existing steps to enter or exit without assistance. Subsequently, Glen has been forced to spend his days inside, leaving him feeling helpless, wishing he could do more and be more independent. It was evident that Glen was in need of a wheelchair ramp, for his safety and well-being.
After learning about the family, Builders Care and a group of dedicated volunteers came together to build an accessible wheelchair for Glen. Thanks to the passionate efforts put forth by all, Glen now has the freedom to enter and exit his home safely, independently, and with ease. Glen was at a loss of words when he used his ramp for the first time and stated, “I will truly think of each of you every time I use this ramp.”
To all who made this possible, the Fox Family expresses their utmost gratitude, stating “You have made such an impact on our lives!! We will forever be thankful and grateful for your help!! May God Bless each and everyone of you! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!!!!” -Denise and Glen Fox
Special Thank you to our project partners for making this possible- Nilles Design Group, Westcoast Structural Concrete & Masonry, Thread Source, Grabber Fort Myers and Volunteers, Mike Nilles, Dan Pickard, Ryan Lapointe, Trevor Taulman, Richard Ellis, Phillip Ford, Emily Lincolnhol and Savannah Phillips.
