A Life-Changing Ramp for the Nascimento Family

Last week,  Lee BIA Builders Care partnered with Bonness, Inc. and Argos USA to provide a recently diagnosed ALS patient with a concrete ramp.

Flavia Nascimento, 38, is a wife and mother of 2 beautiful children, Arthur, age 8 and Alice, age 2. Originally from Brazil, she traveled to the US in a study abroad program and eventually moved to SWFL permanently. Flavia attended Florida Gulf Coast University as a student in the School of Nursing and went on to graduate in 2002. Flavia immediately found employment and worked for Lee Health as a nurse for 16 years. Flavia is a daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend to all, and is loved by so many in the community.

In June 2018, Flavia was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS). ALS causes destruction of motor neurons throughout the body.  ALS specifically targets motor neurons that control speech, swallowing, breathing and movement of arms and legs.  Currently there is little treatment for ALS and the cause is unknown in most cases.

Flavia’s income from disability is now half the salary she once had. While her husband, Alex, is trying to support the family, the care required for Flavia has made it difficult and their life will soon be much different than it once was.

As some know with this disease, conditions and symptoms deteriorate rapidly, which has been the case for Flavia. Daily activities have quickly become challenging and she will soon be in a wheelchair permanently. The family is in need of accessibility for Flavia, and time is of the essence.

After learning of the family’s situation, Bonness and Argos QUICKLY stepped in to make this possible for Flavia and her family. It was only a matter of 4 days that these 2 companies coordinated efforts to provide an accessible ramp for Flavia to enter and exit her home safely. All labor and materials were supplies at no cost to the homeowner.

The ramp is a blessing and provides them with much more ease as they face each day together. The Nascimento family is so grateful for this life-changing gift. Thank you Bonness and Argos for making it possible!!
