Right before Christmas, through the generosity of strangers, Bob Wingo got the gift of a lifetime. For the past 17 days, Lennar employess, sub-contractors and Builders Care volunteers have been spreading holiday cheer all over the Wingo family property. Bringing tools instead of toys, these special elves demolished a mold ridden, structurally dangerous house and built a 1500 square foot brand new home complete with garage, landscaping, furniture and more in its place.More than 70 companies and 120 Lennar employees touched the project in some way. Some provided lunch for volunteers while others like the Sheriff’s Department came out with their tool belts to land a hand. Lennar employees purchased gifts to decorate the home and fill the pantries with food, toiletries, clothing and more.Hundreds of hands and hearts touched the home over the 17-day project. “You truly saw the spirit of the holidays every day with this project,” said Heidi Taulman, executive director, Lee BIA Builders Care. “This is what Builders Care is all about and we are so grateful to the team at Lennar for going above and beyond to help this family in need.”

Why Bob, you ask? Bob & Judy Wingo have lived in this home for nearly 42 years and raised two children and adopted a third child at the age of 7 who suffered with disabilities. Before Judy was placed in a nursing home in 2006, Bob ran a successful sign company in Fort Myers providing services to many builders, realtors and hotels. Bob has done his best to keep up with the needs of his home, but since he does not drive, he spends most of his time traveling to and from the nursing home to be with his ailing wife of 48 years via public transportation.
