Builders Care with the help of local roofing company, Roof Smart of Southwest Florida, answered prayers today. Joan Annunzio, 78, of Cape Coral, said of the roofers working on her home, “This is music to my ears.” Through tears of joy, she said “I am just so overwhelmed and so appreciative.”
Roof Smart and Builders Care VIPs walked down the street next to a Roof Smart truck adorned with holiday decor chanting “Builders Care” to surprise the unsuspecting homeowner this morning. Joan has been living in the home 28 years and it had the original roof on it. It was leaking in several places for the past few years. Thanks to Roof Smart of Southwest Florida, Joan no longer has to worry about her roof. The new roof is valued at about $6,500.
“This is what the season is about, not toys and presents, it is about helping others,” said Peter Simeone, one of the owners of Roof Smart of Southwest Florida. Other Roof Smart owners and employees were on hand joined in the surprise including Misty Gilliam who helped Joan pick out the new shingle color for the roof. The Roof Smart team started tearing off the shingles immediately following the presentation.
This is the 3rd surprise that Roof Smart has presented with Builders Care since last Christmas when they surprised a San Carlos Park family for Christmas. This is project no. 157 for Builders Care since 2005.

After Builders Care board member, Wendi Carroll, led the group in a prayer, Joan gave everyone hugs and gave a very special gift to Peter Simeone. It was a glass bell with the Lord’s Prayer engraved on it. “I just am so appreciative,” Joan said.
